Outbreaks, occurrence, and control of norovirus and hepatitis a virus contamination in berries: A review

Hayriye Bozkurt et al.

Summary: Foodborne enteric viruses, especially HuNoV and HAV, are the most common cause of berry-linked viral diseases and outbreaks worldwide, raising concerns for health authorities. Limited information exists on the fate of foodborne viruses in the berry supply chain from farm to consumer, highlighting the importance of understanding viral outbreaks associated with berries for developing preventative strategies. Fecal contamination from food handlers was identified as the main source of pathogenic viral contamination, while current industrial practices showed limited efficacy in reducing viral load, indicating a need for further research into alternative processing technologies.

Measuring transfer of human norovirus during sandwich production: Simulating the role of food, food handlers and the environment

Summary: Norovirus foodborne outbreaks are a growing public health concern. Understanding the transmission pathways, such as through contaminated food and person-to-person contact, is crucial in reducing the burden of norovirus-associated gastroenteritis. Detection and quantification of norovirus in foods, food handlers' hands, and the environment is essential for outbreak investigation and risk assessment.

Analysis of the effect of sugars and organic acids on the ice melting behavior of pitanga and araza pulp by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC)

Fernanda Sviech et al.

Summary: Research on Brazilian fruits pitanga and araza in frozen state showed that sugars have a significant impact on the melting behavior, while organic acids have a limited effect. Ice melting temperatures were determined for different fruit components and simulated systems, with sugars playing a key role in the freezing behavior.
