Summary: The accumulation and remobilization patterns of non-structural carbohydrates (NSC) in rice stems vary among different sections of the stem at pre- and post-heading stages. Ideal stem morphology for maximizing the stem NSC contribution to grain filling involves larger lower internodes and shorter upper internodes and leaf sheaths.
