Estimating the maize biomass by crop height and narrowband vegetation indices derived from UAV-based hyperspectral images

Yue Zhang et al.

Summary: By utilizing UAV-based hyperspectral imagery and crop height data, combined with different regression models, the study found that various vegetation indices have different importance for estimating maize aboveground biomass at different growth stages, while XGBoost regression models showed high prediction accuracy in estimating fresh and dry aboveground biomass.

Surface reflectance calculation and predictive models of biophysical parameters of maize crop from RG-NIR sensor on board a UAV

Robson Argolo dos Santos et al.

Summary: This study involved the calibration and development of predictive models for maize crops using a low-cost sensor mounted on a UAV. The results showed that the NDVI model performed better in estimating total dry above ground biomass compared to cumulative NDVI, and the importance of calibration to reduce inter-band influence.

Summary: To meet the challenges of global population growth and climate change, crop yields need to be improved sustainably. Genomics-assisted breeding is becoming popular for ensuring food security, highlighting the importance of linking phenotype and genotype relationships. While high-throughput genotyping is cost-effective, there is a need to enhance high-throughput crop phenotyping methods and data analytical capacities.

The Application of UAV-Based Hyperspectral Imaging to Estimate Crop Traits in Maize Inbred Lines

Meiyan Shu et al.

Summary: This study explored the feasibility of estimating important crop traits in maize using UAV hyperspectral images and identified optimal modeling methods. The results showed that sensitive bands were mainly in the near-red and red-edge regions, with more bands identified by CARS than by SPA. The optimal combinations for AGB, TLA, and SPAD value were CARS-PLS, while for TWK it was CARS-RF. Additionally, the PLS model was found to be more stable than the RF model.
