Automated quantification of macular fluid in retinal diseases and their response to anti-VEGF therapy

Martin Michl et al.

Summary: This study aimed to objectively assess disease activity and treatment response in patients with RVO, nAMD, and DME using artificial intelligence-based fluid quantification. The results showed that fluid was mainly present at the fovea in each disease, and there was a specific anatomical response to anti-VEGF therapy.

SYSTEMATIC CORRELATION OF CENTRAL SUBFIELD THICKNESS WITH RETINAL FLUID VOLUMES QUANTIFIED BY DEEP LEARNING IN THE MAJOR EXUDATIVE MACULAR DISEASES

Maximilian Pawloff et al.

Summary: This study investigated the correlation between volumetric measurements of intraretinal and subretinal fluid obtained by deep learning and central retinal subfield thickness based on optical coherence tomography in different retinal diseases. The findings suggest that the correlation of central retinal subfield thickness (CSFT) and fluid volumes depends on the underlying pathology, with limited impact in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration.

Impact of macular fluid volume fluctuations on visual acuity during anti-VEGF therapy in eyes with nAMD

Usha Chakravarthy et al.

Summary: The study reveals that greater fluctuations in retinal fluid volumes during the maintenance phase of anti-VEGF treatment in nAMD are associated with worse visual acuity by 2 years.

Association between Retinal Thickness Variability and Visual Acuity Outcome during Maintenance Therapy Using Intravitreal Anti-Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Agents for Neovascular Age-Related Macular Degeneration

Timothy Y. Y. Lai et al.

Summary: This study found that eyes undergoing treatment for nAMD with more stable retinal thickness variability had better visual outcomes after 2 years, suggesting that reducing retinal thickness fluctuations during the course of treatment can lead to improved outcomes for nAMD patients.
