Epidemiological Risk Factors Associated with Acne Vulgaris Presentation, Severity, and Scarring in a Singapore Chinese Population: A Cross-Sectional Study

Anna Hwee Sing Heng et al.

Summary: This study found that parental acne was associated with acne presentation and severity, while sibling acne was associated with scarring grades. Additionally, gender, age, education level, number of siblings, weight status, atopic diseases, and dietary habits were all related to acne in different ways.

Diet and acne: review of the evidence from 2009 to 2020

Federica Dall'Oglio et al.

Summary: This systematic review explores the relationship between acne and dietary habits, finding that high GI/GL food, dairy products, fatty food, and chocolate may exacerbate acne, while fatty acids, fruit, and vegetable intake may act as protective factors. Future research needs to further investigate the specific dietary components in different foods affecting acne.

Gene regulation by long non-coding RNAs and its biological functions

Luisa Statello et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shed new light on the biogenesis and functions of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), showcasing their diverse roles in gene regulation and signaling pathways, particularly in the contexts of neuronal disorders, immune responses, and cancer. The discovery of unique biogenesis pathways and subcellular localizations of lncRNAs has opened up potential therapeutic avenues for targeting lncRNAs in various biological and pathophysiological conditions.

Gene variants associated with acne vulgaris presentation and severity: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Anna Hwee Sing Heng et al.

Summary: A systematic review of 51 articles identified 60 genes and their 100 variants associated with acne. The meta-analysis indicated that genes influencing inflammatory responses and sebaceous gland activity may have risk variants for acne presentation and severity across populations.

Modifiable and non-modifiable epidemiological risk factors for acne, acne severity and acne scarring among Malaysian Chinese: a cross-sectional study

Yee-How Say et al.

Summary: The study found that positive familial history significantly influences acne presentation, severity, and scarring. Males are at a higher risk of experiencing severe acne scarring. Regular consumption of common breakfast foods is protective against acne presentation.
