Abundance of beryllium in the Sun and stars: The role of non-local thermodynamic equilibrium effects

S. Korotin et al.

Summary: Previous studies have suggested that non-local thermodynamic equilibrium (NLTE) has a minor role in the formation of Be II 313 nm resonance lines in solar and stellar atmospheres. However, the use of more up-to-date atomic physics and new atomic data to construct a model atom indicates that deviations from LTE have a significant influence on the strength of the Be II 313 nm line. Particularly in metal-poor stars, NLTE effects become significant.

Be,V, and Cu in the halo star CS 31082-001 from near-UV spectroscopy

H. Ernandes et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the metal-poor star CS 31082-001 is rich in r-process and actinide elements, with the first measurement of uranium abundance in an old star. The abundance estimates of beryllium, vanadium, and copper in CS 31082-001 are presented, showing that beryllium is low due to the cool temperature, while vanadium and copper have comparable abundances to other metal-poor stars. New chemical evolution models are proposed to investigate the results, and the study also explores other atomic lines in the near-ultraviolet for future studies of metal-poor stars.

Inhomogeneity in the early Galactic chemical enrichment exposed by beryllium abundances in extremely metal-poor stars

R. Smiljanic et al.

Summary: The abundances of beryllium in metal-poor stars show a linear relationship with metallicity down to approximately [Fe/H] -3.0. An increased abundance scatter has been observed in extremely metal-poor stars, suggesting a flattening of the relation between beryllium abundances and metallicity. The study investigates the beryllium abundances in extremely metal-poor stars and aims to clarify the existence of a beryllium abundance plateau.
