Catechin and Furfurylamine Derived Biobased Benzoxazine with Latent-Catalyst Effect

Sourav Mukherjee et al.

Summary: In this study, a biobased benzoxazine monomer, CAT-fa, was synthesized from catechin and furfurylamine. Unexpectedly, a tris-oxazine benzoxazine monomer was obtained. The monomer exhibited latent catalyst effect and could undergo ring-opening polymerization at a low temperature. This work highlights the potential of catechin as a sustainable synthon for the formation of polymers with extensive H-bonding interactions and latent-catalytic potential.

The chemical effect of furfuryl amide on the enhanced performance of the diphenolic acid derived bio-polybenzoxazine resin

Zizhao Qian et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the amidation strategy of converting DPA to DPAM to solve the decarboxylation issue in polybenzoxazines, while also improving their thermal properties. All amide-containing polybenzoxazines showed excellent thermal stabilities, with poly(DFA-fa) exhibiting the highest glass transition temperature and decomposition temperature. A possible post-curing reaction mechanism was proposed to explain the outstanding thermal performance of poly(DFA-fa) resin, presenting an innovative strategy for high-performance bio-based polymers.

Self-Polymerization Promoting Monomers: In Situ Transformation of Disulfide-Linked Benzoxazines into the Thiazolidine Structure

Monisha Monisha et al.

Summary: The study successfully achieved low-energy one-step synthesis of polybenzoxazines through structural transformation of disulfide-linked bisbenzoxazine monomers, providing new insights into their application. Detailed investigation of the molecular-level kinetics of structural transformation in the monomers revealed that the thiazolidine-ring-containing monomers promote ring-opening polymerization at a low temperature, leading to similar polymer structures.

Polymerization mechanism of 1,3-benzoxazine catalyzed by PCl5 and rearrangement of chemical structures

Shuai Zhang et al.

Summary: Ring-opening polymerization of benzoxazine monomers is a complex process that results in the formation of various chemical structures such as N,O-acetal structures, phenolic Mannich structures, and arylamine Mannich structures in polybenzoxazines. The polymerization routes, chemical structures, and thermal properties are influenced by factors such as temperature, time, and solvent polarity. Different structures exhibit varying thermal stability, with arylamine Mannich structures possessing lower initial decomposition temperature but higher char yield due to the presence of thermally unstable iminium ions and anchoring of dangling aniline moieties.
