Anionic Ring-Opening Polymerizations of N-Sulfonylaziridines in Ionic Liquids

Chandan Giri et al.

Summary: The study explores the anionic ring-opening polymerization of sulfonylaziridines in ionic liquids. In imidazolium ILs, the polymerization is not controlled due to poor solubility and solvent-transfer reactions, while in phosphonium ILs, it is controlled and living, allowing for sequential block copolymer synthesis. The slower polymerization rates in ILs compared to traditional polar solvents like DMF may be attributed to better monomer/anion organization in DMF and poorer mobilities in ILs.

Well-Defined Poly(Ester Amide)-Based Homo- and Block Copolymers by One-Pot Organocatalytic Anionic Ring-Opening Copolymerization of N-Sulfonyl Aziridines and Cyclic Anhydrides

Jiaxi Xu et al.

Summary: A new synthetic methodology for poly(ester amide)s has been developed through anionic ring-opening copolymerization of N-sulfonyl aziridines and cyclic anhydrides. Phosphazenes organocatalysts play a crucial role in promoting a controlled and selective copolymerization without competitive side reactions. The mechanism involves proposed catalytic cycles for ring-opening alternating copolymerization and ring-opening polymerization to explain the one-pot synthesis of poly(ester amide)-based homo- and block copolymers.

Grafting polysulfonamide from cellulose paper through organocatalytic ring-opening polymerization of N-sulfonyl aziridines

Linlin Zhu et al.

Summary: A facile and effective method involving ring-opening copolymerization of N-sulfonyl aziridines towards cellulose has been developed for efficient oil/water separation. The modified cellulose paper material showed promising properties for efficient oil/water separations, with a grafting ratio ranging from 96 to 150% and a contact angle over 127°.

Organocatalytic Synthesis of Polysulfonamides with Well-Defined Linear and Brush Architectures from a Designed/Synthesized Bis(N-sulfonyl aziridine)

Linlin Zhu et al.

Summary: A new synthetic methodology for well-defined linear and brush polysulfonamides has been developed through organocatalytic polymerizations. The use of a specific bis(aziridine) monomer suppresses branching from N-sulfonyl aziridines, resulting in controlled linear architectures. The synthesized polysulfonamides exhibit blue fluorescence, excellent thermal properties, and a fast one-pot cascade approach has been developed for brush copolymers with controlled grafted chain length.
