Anisotropic Synthetic Allomelanin Materials via Solid-State Polymerization of Self-Assembled 1,8-Dihydroxynaphthalene Dimers

Summary: This study presents a non-templated method to access synthetic melanins with various architectures, including spheres, sheets, and platelets. By using self-assembling synthons, well-defined structures of different morphologies can be obtained, followed by solid-state polymerization to generate polymeric synthetic melanins while preserving the initial particle shapes.
