Multi-resonator coupled metamaterials for broadband vibration suppression

Pengcheng Zhao et al.

Summary: In this study, multi-resonator coupled metamaterials (MRCMs) with local resonators were proposed to obtain multiple and wide band gaps. By analyzing the effects of structural parameters on the distributions of the band gaps, it was verified that MRCMs have superior vibration suppression capability.

Exploring wave propagation in heterogeneous metastructures using the relaxed model

Ryan Alberdi et al.

Summary: Metamaterials are artificial structures that can manipulate and control sound waves in unique ways. The relaxed micromorphic model is used in this paper to study wave propagation in heterogeneous metastructures composed of different unit cells, showing the versatility of this model in accurately simulating wave propagation. Through spatially arranging multiple unit cells into metastructures, tailored and unique properties such as spatially-dependent broadband wave attenuation, rainbow trapping, and pulse shaping can be achieved.

Buckling-regulated bandgaps of soft metamaterials with chiral hierarchical microstructure

Hui-Kai Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a soft metamaterial with chiral and hierarchical structures, which can easily regulate its elastic wave bandgaps through postbuckling-induced evolution. The postbuckling behavior of chiral hierarchical structures is investigated and analyzed for their stress-strain curves, phase diagram of uniaxial critical compressive strength, and tunable elastic wave bandgaps.

Shape transformers for phononic band gaps tuning in two-dimensional Bloch-periodic lattice structures

Victor E. L. Gasparetto et al.

Summary: In this paper, shape transformers are utilized to adjust the frequency band gaps of lattice structures, resulting in significant shifts of waveband branches towards lower frequencies when changing the cross-section shapes from a void to a filled envelope configuration. By varying cross-section geometric variables, maximum aspect ratios of band gap frequencies can be determined, identifying cross-section shapes with better dynamic characteristics. Among all unit-cells studied, it is found that scaling up the in-plane height of the cross-section maximizes the aspect ratio of the band gap.

Bandgap and vibration transfer characteristics of scissor-like periodic metamaterials

Yingli Li et al.

Summary: A novel periodic mass-spring-truss chain based on a scissor-like structure and inertial amplification is proposed for low-frequency vibration attenuation, exploring resonance, anti-resonance, and bandgap formation, with an optimal configuration suggested. Different angles and stiffness ratios have an impact on the bandgaps.
