Modeling fracture in viscoelastic materials using a modified incremental meshfree RPIM and DIC technique

Mohammad Hamidpour et al.

Summary: This study developed an effective and accurate meshfree method for analyzing fracture mechanics in viscoelastic materials, and validated the method's accuracy and efficiency using digital image correlation technique and ASTM test method. The results showed a close agreement between the proposed meshfree method and experimental data.

Finite element-based virtual fields method with pseudo-real deformation fields for identifying constitutive parameters

Chanyang Kim et al.

Summary: For anisotropic elasticity, the order and size of FE meshes have minimal impact on the FE-VFM results, while the numerical integration order has a marginal effect. In contrast, for plastic materials, the size and order of FE meshes and the order of numerical integration are all critical for accuracy due to large, localized deformation. The concept of a pseudo-real deformation field is proposed to improve the accuracy of FE-VFM for optimizing constitutive parameters of plastic materials.

Quantitative analysis of the Portevin-Le Chatelier effect by combining digital image correlation and dead-weight-type tensile test

Shigeto Yamasaki et al.

Summary: A quantitative evaluation method is proposed for the serration deformation behavior of aluminum alloys using a dead-weight tensile test combined with a DIC method. It was found that elastic deformation predominantly occurs in the stress rising phase, while propagation of PLC bands occurs in the strain burst phase during the test. This method can be applied to qualitative estimation of changes in solid solution elements during natural aging in ternary cluster strengthened aluminum alloys.

Fracture behaviours of brittle ceramics under elliptical ultrasonic vibration: near-to-limit contact analysis of an elastic flat punch

Zhiqiang Gong et al.

Summary: This study investigates the contact behavior and failure characteristics of the driving tip in piezoelectric devices under elliptical ultrasonic vibration, providing important basis for the design of composite structures and discussing the failure analysis of brittle materials under ultrasonic vibration. The results show that quasi-static method and FEM simulation can be applied to complex contact analysis and obtaining failure characteristics induced by stress and strain. Additionally, the study emphasizes the importance of attention to quasi-brittle and quasi-plastic strength criterions in failure analysis under ultrasonic vibration.
