Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Apoptotic effects of dehydrocrenatidine via JNK and ERK pathway regulation in oral squamous cell carcinoma

Hsin-Yu Ho et al.

Summary: Dehydrocrenatidine has been shown to induce apoptosis in human oral cancer cells through both extrinsic and intrinsic pathways, involving various proteins. Co-treatment with MAPK inhibitors suggests that dehydrocrenatidine induces apoptosis via activation of ERK and JNK signaling pathways. These findings shed light on the potential of dehydrocrenatidine in molecular regulation.

The Evolving Epidemiology of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma

Ellen T. Chang et al.

Summary: This review highlights the recent epidemiologic literature on nasopharyngeal carcinoma, focusing on geographic distribution, the involvement of EBV, and the association with Chinese-style salt-preserved fish. New findings suggest a diminished role of salt-preserved fish, a significant impact of EBV genetic sequence variation, and potential effects of oral health and microbiome. Other studies have revealed associations with infectious mononucleosis and genetic variations in response to EBV infection.

Xanthohumol Impairs the PMA-Driven Invasive Behaviour of Lung Cancer Cell Line A549 and Exerts Anti-EMT Action

Adrianna Slawinska-Brych et al.

Summary: Xanthohumol (XN), a prenylated flavonoid from hops, has anti-proliferative and growth inhibitory effects on lung cancer. It can impair cell migration by decreasing levels of pro-invasive MMP-9. XN also reduces the production of pro-angiogenic cytokines and inhibits the epithelial-mesenchymal transition, ultimately suppressing metastatic progression in lung cancer cells.
