Rapid domestication of autotrophic nitrifying granular sludge and its stability during long-term operation

Binchao Zhang et al.

Summary: The study successfully domesticated autotrophic nitrifying granules to replace most heterotrophic bacteria and maintain stable structures. However, during the stable stage, the ammonia nitrogen removal rate was affected by fluctuations in influent ammonia nitrogen.

Interaction and removal of oxytetracycline with aerobic granular sludge

Qiulai He et al.

Summary: This study compared the tolerance ability of incomplete and complete granulation sludge to oxytetracycline (OTC), finding that incomplete granulation sludge showed better denitrification performance and resistance, while complete granulation sludge suffered a permanent collapse under high OTC concentrations.

Denitrifying bacterial communities in surface-flow constructed wetlands during different seasons: characteristics and relationships with environment factors

Jia-ming Wei et al.

Summary: This study used high-throughput sequencing to investigate the relationships between denitrifying bacteria community structures and environmental factors, revealing dynamic changes in denitrifying bacterial abundance and diversity across different seasons and processing units. The abundance and diversity of denitrifying bacteria were strongly influenced by environmental factors such as temperature and pH.

Long-term evaluation of the effect of peracetic acid on a mixed anoxic culture: Organic matter degradation, denitrification, and microbial community structure

Jinchen Chen et al.

Summary: The study found that direct addition of high concentrations of peracetic acid and hydrogen peroxide significantly impacts organic matter degradation and denitrification, but there is fast recovery once direct addition ceases. Long-term operation results in major shifts in the microbial community, with partial acclimation to PAA leading to higher denitrification activity.

Recent technologies for nutrient removal and recovery from wastewaters: A review

Mohd Najibul Hasan et al.

Summary: In recent years, water scarcity and pollution have become a concern, with nutrient pollution in wastewater leading to eutrophication and reduced oxygen levels in aquatic ecosystems. Traditional biological treatment processes have not effectively removed nutrients, highlighting the need for eco-friendly, low-energy nutrient removal technologies to meet stringent disposal standards.

A review of aerobic granular sludge (AGS) treating recalcitrant wastewater: Refractory organics removal mechanism, application and prospect

Fangrui Cai et al.

Summary: In recent years, the innovative biotechnology aerobic granular sludge (AGS) has shown significant potential in effectively treating recalcitrant wastewater due to its high biomass retention, resistance to toxicity, and layered structure. This review analyzes the structure of AGS and its applications in treating recalcitrant industrial effluents, highlighting the potential for biodegradation of refractory organics. Combining AGS with chemical pre-treatments or membrane bioreactors may offer economically feasible and promising alternatives for wastewater treatment.

Research on rapid cultivation of aerobic granular sludge (AGS) with different feast-famine strategies in continuous flow reactor and achieving high-level denitrification via utilization of soluble microbial product (SMP)

Dong Li et al.

Summary: The study showed that using periodic famine and continuous feast strategies can cultivate mature AGS and promote the formation of microbial aggregates. The PF strategy can achieve high-level denitrification via SMP utilization, while the dominant bacteria under the CF strategy are fast-growing heterotrophic organisms.
