The sensitivity of global surface air temperature to vegetation greenness

Xiuliang Yuan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the global climatic feedbacks of vegetation changes on surface air temperature using remote sensing and re-analysis datasets, as well as the Common Land Model. The results show that the sensitivity of surface air temperature to an increase in vegetation greenness is determined by background climate conditions, with convergence sensitivity being influenced by satellite-observed evapotranspiration and albedo.

A 10 per cent increase in global land evapotranspiration from 2003 to 2019

Madeleine Pascolini-Campbell et al.

Summary: Global land evapotranspiration increased by 10% between 2003 and 2019, driven mainly by warming land temperatures. This increase has resulted in more land precipitation being partitioned into evapotranspiration rather than runoff. Observations also show that variability in global land evapotranspiration is positively correlated with the El Nino-Southern Oscillation.

Ecosystem Water Use Efficiency in the Three-North Region of China Based on Long-Term Satellite Data

Qi'ao Zhang et al.

Summary: Water use efficiency (WUE) is an important ecological indicator for assessing vegetation growth conditions, especially in regions with limited water supply like the Three-North region of China. The study found that WUE varied across the region, with higher WUE in the southeastern region with sufficient precipitation and afforestation programs, while areas further away had lower WUE, highlighting the importance of water supply for sustainable vegetation growth and the need for future ecological restoration and sustainable management efforts.
