In-situ remediation of zinc contaminated soil using phosphorus recovery product: Hydroxyapatite/calcium silicate hydrate (HAP/C-S-H)

Meng Yuan et al.

Summary: This research discussed the feasibility and stability of using HAP/C-S-H as an adsorbent to remove Zn(II) from aqueous solution and immobilize Zn(II) in contaminated soil. The results demonstrated that HAP/C-S-H showed good performance in removing Zn(II) and reducing the bioavailability of Zn(II) in soil.

Organic acid regulation of inorganic phosphorus release from Mollisols with different organic matter contents

Xiaoyan Yang et al.

Summary: Phosphorus plays a crucial role in enhancing agricultural productivity, and the effects of organic acids and soil organic matter contents on inorganic phosphorus release are not well understood. This study found that Fe-P fraction had the highest concentration in all soils, and the release of P-i fractions decreased with increasing soil organic matter in the presence of organic acids. Among the fractions, Al-P had the highest release and oxalic acid was the most effective for P-i release.

Effects of particulate fractions on critical slope and critical rainfall intensity for runoff phosphorus from bare loessial soil

Lei Wu et al.

Summary: Slope and rainfall intensity are crucial factors affecting runoff phosphorus in loessial bare sloping lands. The study found that particulate phosphorus (PP) form dominates runoff P in bare loessial soil, regardless of rainfall intensity and slope, with the critical slope and rainfall intensity for significant increases in PP and TP falling in the range of 15-20 degrees and 90-105 mm/h respectively.

Potentially toxic trace element pollution in long-term fertilized agricultural soils in China: A meta-analysis

Shiwei Zhou et al.

Summary: Long-term organic fertilization significantly increased total Cu, Zn, and Cd concentrations in Chinese croplands. Organic fertilizer type and application rate were key factors in determining PTTE concentrations, with organic fertilizers containing less than 1 mg/kg Cd recommended for safe application. Soil type under long-term inorganic fertilization played a main role in determining available PTTE variation, leading to higher pollution risk in certain soils.

A meta-analysis of heavy metal bioavailability response to biochar aging: Importance of soil and biochar properties

Chengpeng Yuan et al.

Summary: A detailed analysis was conducted on the effects of biochar application in remediation of heavy metal-polluted soils, revealing that biochar aging can influence the changes in heavy metal bioavailability, with factors such as soil pH, texture, aging time, and pyrolysis temperature playing significant roles. Different impacts of biochar application and aging on heavy metal bioavailability were observed in various types of soils.
