Evaluation of the metal(loid)s phytoextraction potential of wild plants grown in three antimony mines in southern China

Yunxia Zhang et al.

Summary: Wild plant species from three deserted antimony (Sb) mine areas in southern China were collected and analyzed for metal concentrations in plants and soil. The plants were classified into three categories based on their tendency to accumulate metals, with some showing high potential to absorb antimony from contaminated soil for phytoremediation purposes. Although the soil in the mining area contained toxic levels of substances, many plant species did not exhibit clear signs of toxicity.

Sulfidated nano-scale zerovalent iron is able to effectively reduce in situ hexavalent chromium in a contaminated aquifer

Miroslav Brumovsky et al.

Summary: Laboratory studies have shown that sulfidated nanoscale zero-valent iron (S-nZVI) particles exhibit enhanced reactivity, reducing capacity, and electron selectivity for removing Cr(VI) from contaminated waters. Field experiments confirmed the applicability of S-nZVI for remediating a Cr(VI)-contaminated aquifer, demonstrating long-term decreases in Cr(VI) concentrations and groundwater redox potential.

Combined application of zinc oxide nanoparticles and biofertilizer to induce salt resistance in safflower by regulating ion homeostasis and antioxidant defence responses

Humaira Yasmin et al.

Summary: The combined treatment of zinc oxide nanoparticles and biofertilizer significantly enhanced agronomic parameters and improved salt tolerance in safflower plants. While ZnO-NPs showed a significant protective effect against salinity stress in safflower plants, they exhibited antagonistic outcomes on K+ concentration.
