Muzaffer Can Iban et al.

Summary: This study aims to generate Machine Learning (ML) based wildfire susceptibility maps for Adana and Mersin provinces in Turkey and evaluates the performance of different algorithms. The results indicate that the Random Forest model performs the best, and elevation, temperature, and slope are the most significant factors.

Simulation of the climatic changes around the coastal land reclamation areas using artificial neural networks

Cagdas Kuscu Simsek et al.

Summary: Over the past 20 years, Istanbul has undergone intense land use/cover change due to investment strategies in the construction sector and urban transformation works. The disposal of debris from building demolitions has led to the creation of land reclamation areas, posing threats to the marine ecosystem and impacting local climate. Using Artificial Neural Networks, the study examined thermal environment changes in coastal reclamation areas of Istanbul and found that the simulations were sensitive enough to monitor thermal changes in urban areas.

Simulation of future land surface temperature distribution and evaluating surface urban heat island based on impervious surface area

Aliihsan Sekertekin et al.

Summary: This study aimed to simulate the future distribution of Land Surface Temperature (LST) and evaluate Surface Urban Heat Island (SUHI) based on impervious surface area in Zonguldak, Turkey. The analysis found high correlation between LST and NDVI and NDBI, leading to the development of a mathematical model for LST retrieval. The results indicated that future SUHI distribution is closely related to impervious surface area, and urbanization may lead to a dramatic increase in SUHI unless proper urban planning is implemented.

Gap-Free LST Generation for MODIS/Terra LST Product Using a Random Forest-Based Reconstruction Method

Yao Xiao et al.

Summary: The proposed method utilizes a linking model with random forest regression and incorporates accumulated solar radiation from sunrise to satellite overpass to represent cloud impact on LST. It successfully generates gap-free LST products for Chongqing City. Visual assessment and validation with in situ observations show that the reconstructed cloud-covered LSTs perform similarly to clear-sky LSTs, with an unbiased root mean squared error of 2.63 K.

Summary: This paper proposes a time series prediction framework for urban surface temperature under cloud interference, aiming to solve the impact of data loss on surface temperature prediction. By analyzing the spatial and temporal variation trends of surface temperature and vegetation index, and utilizing geographically weighed regression and deep learning methods, the spatial distribution of surface temperature is effectively predicted.
