Institutional dynamics and forest use practices in the Santchou Landscape of Cameroon

Summary: The study analyzed the changes in forest-linked institutions and their effects on forest use practices in sub-Saharan Africa. Results showed that traditional councils and secret societies are dominant forest-linked institutions in the Santchou landscape, and endogenously-rooted institutional structures have exogenous origins. Changes in customs and norms were found to have a negative and significant impact on forest use practices.
