The use of primary energy factors and CO2 intensities for electricity in the European context-A systematic methodological review and critical evaluation of the contemporary literature

Sam Hamels et al.

Summary: A review of 110 recent studies on primary energy use and CO2 emissions associated with electricity consumption found that methodological aspects such as country focus, retrospective perspective, temporal resolution, and operational perspective were not thoroughly considered in most cases. Future research should carefully consider and justify these methodological aspects, as well as the need for a transparent database of up-to-date CFs.
