Postnatal BPA is associated with increasing executive function difficulties in preschool children

Gillian England-Mason et al.

Summary: Results from the study showed that higher maternal BPA concentrations at 3-month postpartum were associated with increasing difficulties in inhibitory self-control and emergent metacognition in girls aged 2 to 4, but not boys. Other bisphenol concentrations were not linked to changes in executive function.

Exposure to bisphenols and asthma morbidity among low-income urban children with asthma

Lesliam Quiros-Alcala et al.

Summary: The study found evidence to suggest that BPA exposure in a predominantly low-income, minority pediatric cohort is associated with asthma morbidity, with potential sexually dimorphic effects. Associations with asthma symptoms or health care utilization were not consistently found for BPS and BPF. Additional studies are recommended given the high burden of pediatric asthma and widespread exposure to BPA in the United States.

Prenatal exposure to bisphenol S and altered newborn mitochondrial DNA copy number in a baby cohort study: Sex-specific associations

Summary: The study suggested that BPS exposure was associated with decreased mtDNAcn in male newborns, with the first trimester identified as a critical window for exposure. No significant associations were found in female newborns.

Multigenerational study of the obesogen effects of bisphenol S after a perinatal exposure in C57BL6/J mice fed a high fat diet

Axelle Brulport et al.

Summary: This study found that perinatal exposure to BPS can lead to sex-dependent obesogen effects in multiple generations of mice. In the F1 generation, male mice showed overweight while female mice exhibited dyslipidemia. In the F2 generation, BPS exposure was associated with increased body weight, fat, and visceral adipose tissue in both males and females.

Summary: The study found associations between prenatal urinary bisphenol A (BPA) and paraben concentrations with preterm birth, particularly during mid-to-late pregnancy and among female infants. The risk of preterm birth may be compound, sex, and window specific.

Summary: The HBM4EU project established a prioritisation strategy to determine a final list of substances for research activities, based on knowledge gaps identified by policy makers and stakeholders, as well as scoring by experts and alignment with European policy priorities. The final list of 9 priority substances/groups reflected hazardous properties, exposure characteristics, societal concern, regulatory status, available analytical methods, and project resources.
