Exposure to benzo(a)pyrene from juvenile period to peripubertal impairs male reproductive parameters in adult rats

Barbara Campos Jorge et al.

Summary: BaP exposure during the prepubertal period negatively impacted the reproductive parameters in adult male rats, leading to compromised copulatory behavior, reduced sperm quality and quantity, and histopathological changes in testicular tissue. A comprehensive risk assessment of prepubertal BaP exposure is necessary to understand its long-term effects on male reproductive health.

Melatonin alleviates benzo(a)pyrene-induced ovarian corpus luteum dysfunction by suppressing excessive oxidative stress and apoptosis

Hanting Xu et al.

Summary: The study revealed that Benzo(a)pyrene (B(a)P) affects embryo implantation and ovarian CL function in pregnant mice, leading to decreased levels of estrogen and progesterone in the ovaries and impacting oxidative stress and cell apoptosis. Additionally, melatonin was found to alleviate B(a)P-induced ovarian dysfunction by reducing oxidative stress and apoptosis, providing a potential protective mechanism against B(a)P exposure through the melatonin receptor pathway.

Association of aryl hydrocarbon receptor transactivating activity, a potential biomarker for persistent organic pollutants, with the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus

Summary: This study suggests that serum AhRT activity is positively associated with the risk of GDM, with higher AhRT activity and lower ATP concentrations in the GDM group. The AhRT activity has moderate correlations with serum glucose levels and could be a potential biomarker for GDM diagnostics.

Involvement of mitochondrial fission in renal tubular pyroptosis in mice exposed to high and environmental levels of glyphosate combined with hard water

Lin Zhang et al.

Summary: The combination of glyphosate and hard water plays an important role in the pathogenesis of chronic interstitial nephritis, activating the Nlrp3/caspase1 pathway through aberrant mitochondrial fission. High doses of glyphosate and hard water exposure cause proximal tubular injury, oxidative stress, and inflammation, which can be attenuated by Drp1 inhibitor.

Summary: The study revealed that various components of PAHs may impact reproductive parameters differently. Inhalation of PAHs in air, especially high molecular weight (HMW) PAHs, may pose a potential risk factor for male reproductive health.

Expression profile of a novel glutathione S-transferase gene in the marine polychaete Perinereis aibuhitensis in short-term responses to phenanthrene, fluoranthene, and benzo[α]pyrene

Xiutang Yuan et al.

Summary: Polychaete worms can eliminate polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in environments by increasing their water solubility. A novel omega GST gene identified from Perinereis aibuhitensis plays an important role in the phase II detoxification of PAHs in polychaete worms. The gene expression of omega GST is positively correlated with the concentration of benzo[alpha]pyrene exposure but negatively correlated with the exposure of PAH benzene rings.
