Summary: This study investigated the occurrence, distribution, sources, mass inventory, and ecological risk assessment of PFAAs in surface sediments of the lower Yangtze River. Results showed that PFOA and PFOS were predominant with main sources from electroplating and fast-food packaging, degradation products and textile.

Short and long-chain perfluoroalkyl acids are widely detected in WWTP influents and effluents, with most WWTPs exhibiting low removal efficiencies for PFAS and biodegradation being the primary mechanism for PFAS transformation in WWTPs.
