Dynamics of bacterial functional genes and community structures during rhizoremediation of diesel-contaminated compost-amended soil

Yun-Yeong Lee et al.

Summary: This study characterized the effects of organic soil amendment (compost) on bacterial populations associated with petroleum hydrocarbon (PH) degradation and nitrous oxide (N2O) dynamics via pot experiments. The results showed that compost addition can improve TPH removal efficiency, increase bacterial diversity, and promote the expression of genes related to PH and N2O reduction. These findings may contribute to enhancing remediation efficiency and greenhouse gas mitigation during rhizoremediation of diesel-contaminated soils.

Conceptual and methodological issues in estimating the success of ecological restoration

Lilian Marchand et al.

Summary: The success of ecological restoration actions may be overestimated due to the heterogeneity of collected data, according to research. It is suggested to differentiate between actions aiming to increase or decrease ecosystem attributes, and to use a new index AR to assess restoration success.

Iron homeostasis in plants and its crosstalk with copper, zinc, and manganese

Snigdha Rai et al.

Summary: Micronutrients like copper, manganese, iron, and zinc play essential roles in plant metabolism, with a narrow concentration range in plants and maintaining a balance being crucial for plant health. Understanding the interaction between iron and other micronutrients is key to improving plant growth strategies and has implications for agriculture and phytoremediation.
