Development and parametric study of a new self-centering rotational friction damper

Sajad Veismoradi et al.

Summary: The Self-Centering Rotational Friction damper (SC-RF damper) is an innovative seismic device that combines energy dissipation and self-centering characteristics through specially grooved friction plates and prestressed conical disc springs. Similar to RF dampers, the SC-RF dampers provide significant flexibility in connection component design and structural system performance.

A state-of-the-art review on passive friction dampers and their applications

Sujit Jaisee et al.

Summary: Friction type passive energy dissipation devices, particularly friction dampers, are favored for seismic fortification of engineering structures due to their simplicity, reliability, and ability to dissipate maximum energy without being significantly influenced by loading variables. Since the 1980s, numerous novel passive dry friction dampers have been developed and applied in civil engineering, with a better understanding of friction mechanisms and behaviors. Decades of research on these dampers have been highly scattered throughout the academic community, prompting the need for a systematic overview in this field to facilitate further studies and guide future research directions.
