Effects of roof geometry on tornado-induced structural actions of a low-rise building

Alireza Razavi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of different roof geometries on the structural behavior of low-rise buildings under tornado loads, finding that flat roof buildings experience the highest uplift, shear, and moment. Correction factors are introduced to enhance the accuracy of ASCE7-16 predictions for low-rise buildings with various roof geometries.

Internal pressure modelling for low-rise buildings in tornadoes

Aaron L. Jaffe et al.

Summary: The study explores the dynamics of internal pressures in tornadic wind fields and their simulation using external pressures. It finds that while the internal pressure model can reasonably simulate tornado internal pressures, it is slightly less accurate compared to atmospheric boundary layer winds. Differences in the wind fields in the vortex core of the tornado, such as the presence of sub-vortices and vertical wind components, contribute to the reduced accuracy.

Characteristics of tornado wind loads and examinations of tornado wind load provisions in ASCE 7-16

Jin Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that tornadoes have a significant impact on buildings, with the intensity of aerodynamic loads being influenced by terrain and building characteristics. Additionally, the tornado wind load provisions introduced in ASCE 7-16 may underestimate the wind loads on buildings with significant openings.

Reynolds number effects on the wind pressure distribution on spherical storage tanks

Ning Su et al.

Summary: This study conducted wind tunnel tests to analyze the effects of Reynolds number on the aerodynamic performance of spherical storage tanks. Criteria for trans-critical self-modeling Reynolds number range were determined under different surface roughness conditions in uniform and ABL flows, with a piecewise mean wind pressure coefficient model established for engineering reference.
