Influence of catalyst and solvent on the hydrothermal liquefaction of woody biomass

Xinxing Zhou et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of catalyst and solvent on bio-energy production through hydrothermal liquefaction of woody biomass. Experimental and machine learning methods were used to optimize the liquefaction parameters. The results show that alkaline catalysts and a specific mixed solvent contribute to the generation of bio-energy, and a developed random forest model performs well in yield prediction.

Phosphorus concentration and availability in raw organic waste and post fermentation products

Agnieszka Tuszynska et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the mobility of phosphorus forms in raw organic waste and digestate fractions, finding that phosphorus in digestates mainly existed in inorganic forms with Fe, Al, Mn, Mg and Ca ions. The solid fractions of digestate contained a significant amount of labile phosphorus, while the liquid fraction had a higher proportion of labile phosphorus forms in relation to total phosphorus.

The comparison study of multiple biochar stability assessment methods

Jiefeng Chen et al.

Summary: Biochar produced from thermochemical processing biomass is being developed as an effective way to mitigate climate change, and its stability is crucial for its potential in climate change mitigation. There is currently no standard method available for assessing biochar stability, and results from different methods show significant differences. Research findings show that the volatile matter/(fixed carbon + volatile matter) has high correlations with other indicators, aiding in the evaluation of biochar stability.

Insight into the Mechanism of Glycerol Dehydration and Subsequent Pyridine Synthesis

Ding Jiang et al.

Summary: In this study, glycerol was used to synthesize pyridine, and it was found that neutral glycerol could be directly converted into pyridine in an ammonia atmosphere. The research confirmed the conversion mechanism with experimental data and theoretical modeling. Additionally, the ZSM-5 catalyst played a role in shape-selectivity and altering the reaction pathway for glycerol conversion to pyridine.

Effects of aqueous phase recirculation on product yields and quality from hydrothermal liquefaction of rice straw

S. Harisankar et al.

Summary: Aqueous phase recirculation reduces bio-crude yield but increases bio-char yield, while improving the carbon and hydrogen content of the products. In addition to indicating the dominance of dehydrogenation reactions, AP recirculation also leads to better performance and ion accumulation characteristics in bio-char.
