Regional allocation of renewable energy quota in China under the policy of renewable portfolio standards

Dequn Zhou et al.

Summary: Renewable energy quota in China is allocated at provincial level using a zero sum gains data envelopment analysis (ZSG-DEA) model and entropy model, with the rationality evaluated by an environmental Gini coefficient. The allocation results successfully transfer the responsibility of renewable energy quota from western provinces to eastern provinces.

Kinetics of pyrolysis of cotton stalk using model-fitting and model-free methods

Ramesh Naidu Mandapati et al.

Summary: The study investigated the pyrolysis of cotton stalk to determine its intrinsic kinetic parameters and understand the pyrolysis process. Model-fitting and model-free methods were used to assess the kinetics, revealing that simple reaction models were insufficient to explain the pyrolysis mechanism. Further investigation with complex reaction mechanisms and different methods yielded average activation energy values for fractional conversion values of 0.05 > alpha > 0.7.

An understanding for improved biomass pyrolysis: Toward a systematic comparison of different acid pretreatments

Shuyu Zhou et al.

Summary: The study compares the effects of acid infusion and washing pretreatments on biomass pyrolysis products through a combination of experimental techniques and theoretical kinetic analysis. Acid washed corn stover showed reduction in char and improvement in sugars, especially levoglucosan, compared to raw corn stover, while sugar yield of acid infused corn stover remained relatively high under acid buffer conditions but decreased significantly with higher acid infusion levels. The kinetic analysis suggested strong condensation reactions between cellulose and lignin in acid infused corn stover, with increased production of vinyl-phenols and other simple phenols associated with enhanced char production. Overall, the study provides insights into fast pyrolysis behavior of acid pretreated biomass for high-quality bio-oil production and value-added chemicals.
