Continuous CO2 capture performance of K2CO3/Al2O3 sorbents in a novel two-stage integrated bubbling-transport fluidized reactor

Jiliang Ma et al.

Summary: A novel two-stage integrated bubbling-transport bed reactor was proposed for post-combustion CO2 capture using K2CO3/Al2O3 sorbents. The optimal adsorption temperature range was found to be between 60 degrees C and 100 degrees C, with wider range than traditional reactors. CO2 capture efficiency increased with sorbent circulation rate and desorption temperature, while better performance was observed with air desorption gas. Water vapor step-feeding enhanced maximum CO2 capture efficiency from 87% to 96% and showed strong anti-interference ability.

Innovative low-grade waste heat-based design of energy self-sufficient carbon-capture cogeneration system in coal-fired power plants

Tiancheng Ouyang et al.

Summary: This paper presents an innovative carbon capture system design based on low-grade waste heat to reduce costs and achieve energy self-sufficiency. The system utilizes waste heat from flue gas as an energy source to meet the power, cooling, and heat requirements of the carbon capture process. Economic analysis indicates that the system's initial investment can be recovered within 4.65 years.

Performance assessment of new energy-saving schemes for combined heat and power plants

Ying Wu et al.

Summary: The new energy-saving scheme for combined heat and power (CHP) retrofitting in coal-fired power plants combines high back-pressure (HBP), absorption heat pump (AHP) and absorption heat exchanger (AHE) to reduce exergy losses and waste heat, resulting in increased power output and efficiency. By effectively applying this scheme in dual unit systems, additional power loss due to off-design conditions can be reduced or eliminated, leading to overall performance improvement. Thermodynamic, exergy, and techno-economic analyses show a 3.55% increase in power efficiency with a dynamic payback period of 1.59 years and a net present value increase of 48,805 thousand USD over a 25-year lifespan.

Efficient synthetic approach for nanoporous adsorbents capable of pre- and post-combustion CO2 capture and selective gas separation

Jaewoo Park et al.

Summary: This study developed cost-effective and efficient nanoporous carbon adsorbents for pre- and post-combustion CO2 capture, with large specific surface area and specific pore volume. The carbon adsorbents exhibited selective CO2 adsorption and high storage capacity, with the ability to store up to 22.1 mmol g-1 and 3 mmol g-1 of CO2 at 25 bar and 1 bar, respectively. Selective CO2 capture was confirmed through evaluation of CO2/CH4, CO2/N2, and CO2/H2 binary gas mixtures, with the most effective adsorbent showing high selectivity for CO2.

Thermodynamic analysis of a novel zero carbon emission coal-based polygeneration system incorporating methanol synthesis and Allam power cycle

Tuantuan Xin et al.

Summary: A novel zero carbon emission coal-based polygeneration system is proposed, integrating the Allam cycle for efficient power generation in methanol production. Compared to individual systems, this proposed system shows a higher fuel saving ratio and net power output, indicating a more efficient utilization of coal with nearly zero emission.

Experimental and Kinetic Analysis of H2O on Hg0 Removal by Sorbent Traps in Oxy-combustion Atmosphere

Jingmao Wu et al.

Summary: Experimental results showed that a low-level of H2O had a promoting effect on the adsorption of H-0, and high-level of H2O had an inhibiting effect. A high concentration of H2O would form a water film on the surface of sorbent traps to hinder the removal of external mass transfer on H-0.
