Experimental study on kinetic characteristics of oil sludge gasification

Zhiwei Chu et al.

Summary: This study aimed to recover resources from oil sludge gasification, with results showing the gasification reaction could be divided into five stages. Through kinetic and thermodynamic analysis, the activation energy, enthalpy change, and Gibbs free energy change of the main reaction stages were analyzed, showing the reaction was not spontaneous but the decrease in activation energy was beneficial.

Assessment of the energy recovery potential of oil sludge through gasi fi cation aiming electricity generation

York Castillo Santiago et al.

Summary: Thermochemical conversion of oil sludge residues from crude oil refinery was studied as an alternative for treatment and energy recovery before final disposal. A simulation model for oil sludge gasification was developed and evaluated for different gasification parameters and performance indexes. The study found that gasification of oil sludge and using syngas for electricity generation could be an efficient technological alternative for managing oily residues inside an oil refinery.

Summary: This study evaluated the environmental impacts of horticultural crops under different cropping systems in Guilan province of Iran using the life cycle assessment (LCA) method and CExD analysis. The findings showed that hazelnut production has the highest emissions and energy consumption among all studied crops, while citrus production has the lowest environmental impacts. It is suggested to cultivate citrus for more sustainable horticultural production.

Modeling and multi-objective optimization of variable air gasification performance parameters using Syzygium cumini biomass by integrating ASPEN Plus with Response surface methodology (RSM)

Deepak Kumar Singh et al.

Summary: This study developed a robust method for modeling and optimizing variable air gasification parameters using ASPEN Plus simulator and Response Surface Methodology (RSM). A comprehensive thermochemical equilibrium-based model of downdraft gasifier was developed by minimizing Gibbs free energy, and good agreement was attained between simulated and experimental results. The air gasification process was modeled in four phases, including biomass drying, decomposition, gasification, and gas filtration, with sensitivity analysis performed to obtain syngas composition and optimize gasification performance.

Method of smoldering combustion for refinery oil sludge treatment

Cheng Zhao et al.

Summary: Smoldering combustion has been shown to be feasible for treating refinery oil sludge, leading to odorless residue with reduced volume and no petroleum hydrocarbons. Water and oil can be recovered from the off-gas, with the recovered oil having a higher calorific value for potential reutilization. However, further purification is needed for the noncondensable off-gas containing SO2, NOx, H-2, CO, and H2S. Factors affecting the smoldering performance, such as moisture content, filler to oil sludge ratio, and airflow rate, have been explored in this study.

Experimental study on gasification of oil sludge with steam and its char characteristic

Zhiwei Chu et al.

Summary: Hydrogen production through oil sludge gasification with steam is significant for industrial hazardous waste treatment and resource conservation. The process showed optimal hydrogen yield at 800 degrees Celsius with an SOS ratio of 0.3:1. Char yield post-gasification was high, necessitating incineration which could be divided into three stages. Gasification combined with char incineration is an effective approach for solid waste utilization, recovering hydrogen energy and reducing environmental risks.
