Enhancing coalbed methane recovery with liquid CO2 fracturing in underground coal mine: From experiment to field application

Shixing Fan et al.

Summary: This study introduces a new underground coal permeability enhancement technique using liquid CO2 fracturing. Key parameters and influence radius of L-CO2 fracturing were determined through experiments and calculation models. The development of equipment and field test results confirmed the effectiveness of coal permeability enhancement through L-CO2 fracturing.

Heat effects and kinetics of coal spontaneous combustion at various oxygen contents

Zhang Yutao et al.

Summary: Decreasing oxygen concentration reduces heat release of coal, delays occurrence of characteristic temperature point, and prolongs reaction time. Under oxygen-depleted conditions, the apparent activation energy and pre-exponential factor of coal decrease, leading to a decline in CSC reaction intensity.

Numerical study on the oxidation reaction characteristics of coal under temperature-programmed conditions

Xueqiang Shi et al.

Summary: The research shows that the reaction between coal and oxygen is influenced by temperature and oxygen concentration, increasing the volume fraction of oxygen and heating rate can promote the reaction between coal and oxygen, and reduce the heating effects under external heating conditions. Therefore, controlling temperature storage conditions can prevent the oxidation reaction of coal, while changing oxygen supply conditions can control the development of coal spontaneous combustion.

Dissect the capacity of low-temperature oxidation of coal with different metamorphic degrees

Jiawen Cai et al.

Summary: Radical chemistry is a major factor in the low-temperature oxidation of coal, with electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy being a powerful tool to study the behavior of radicals. The study found that low-rank coal has a more prominent oxidizability compared to other types of coal, and a novel approach using the relative growth rate R of radicals was developed to quantify the oxidizability of coal. These results are consistent with the tendency of coal spontaneous combustion.

A novel methodology for evaluating the inhibitory effect of chloride salts on the ignition risk of coal spontaneous combustion

Hongpeng Lv et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the ignition risk of coal spontaneous combustion under the influence of NaCl, KCl, and MgCl2 solution, finding that using MgCl2 solution has the maximum inhibitory effect and the minimum risk index. Sodium chloride and potassium chloride promoted coal spontaneous combustion, while the hydrate formed by magnesium chloride consistently inhibited it.

Effect of oxidation temperature and oxygen concentration on macro characteristics of pre-oxidised coal spontaneous combustion process

Hui-Fei Lu et al.

Summary: Pre-oxidised coal has poorer ignition performance and burnout capacity compared to raw coal. However, its combustion rate and short-term combustion intensity are higher than raw coal. The temperature at which thermal release occurs rapidly for pre-oxidised coal lags behind raw coal, and its maximum thermal release power is less than that of raw coal.

Investigation on combustion performance and ash fusion characteristics of Zhundong coal co-combustion with coal gangue

Shuanghui Deng et al.

Summary: This study investigated the combustion characteristics of Zhundong coal, coal gangue, and their blends using thermogravimetric analysis and analytical instruments. The optimal blending ratio for better combustion performance was determined to be 30% coal gangue added into Zhundong coal. The results provide reference for burning blended high ash coal in a large pulverized Zhundong coal boiler for safety and economy.

Effects of thermal boundary conditions on spontaneous combustion of coal under temperature-programmed conditions

Xueqiang Shi et al.

Summary: A new method to calculate key parameters of coal self-heating and a global numerical model to explore the coal oxidation process were proposed. The coal oxidation process can be divided into three stages, which is essential for preventing coal spontaneous combustion.
