Data-augmented sequential deep learning for wind power forecasting

Hao Chen et al.

Summary: Accurate wind power forecasting is crucial in wind parks. Deep learning is increasingly used due to its ability to handle big data, but in-situ measured wind data are expensive and correlations between steps are often ignored. This study applies data augmentation to wind power forecasting and develops deep learning networks to improve forecasting accuracy.

Novel sensorless fault-tolerant pitch control of a horizontal axis wind turbine with a new hybrid approach for effective wind velocity estimation

Farshad Golnary et al.

Summary: In this research, fault-tolerant pitch angle control for a horizontal axis wind turbine in high wind speed region 3 is investigated. A novel hybrid approach utilizing sliding mode observer and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system is developed to estimate aerodynamic torque and obtain effective wind velocity. The new super twisting sliding mode control is introduced to optimize output power, while pitch sensitivity information is determined by another ANFIS system, making the control approach solely dependent on pitch angle and rotor speed.

Real-time rotor effective wind speed estimation using Gaussian process regression and Kalman filtering

Wai Hou Lio et al.

Summary: This paper presents a framework of rotor effective wind speed estimator design that eliminates the need for pre-computed power coefficient mapping. By reconstructing the mapping using Gaussian process regression and implementing an extended Kalman filter, optimal estimation from standard turbine measurements is achieved, significantly reducing estimation errors.

Ali Dali et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel Improved Maximum Power Point Tracking (IMPPT) algorithm to extract the maximum available power from a direct-drive Permanent-Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) based standalone Small-scale Variable Speed Wind Turbine (VSWT). The proposed control scheme, combined with a new designed nonlinear robust controller, aims to improve the power extraction efficiency of the system. Luis David Avendano-Valencia et al.

Summary: A data-driven model using Gaussian Process Regression was proposed to predict short-term fatigue Damage Equivalent Loads (DEL) on wake-affected wind turbines. Sensitivity analysis was conducted to assess the impact of different inputs on DEL predictions, with qualitative recommendations provided to minimize errors. The study aims to promote the use of sparse structural monitoring for diagnostics on wake-affected turbines.
