Methodology for the evaluation of demand response strategies for the management of natural gas systems

Lina Montuori et al.

Summary: The gradual increase in energy consumption, along with the massive implementation of renewable generation technologies, has led to a significant increment in the variability and unpredictability of power generation, resulting in higher grid management costs and increased contingency probabilities. Increasingly, customers are participating in solving these issues through demand response actions globally. The similarities between electricity and natural gas systems suggest a successful application of demand response concepts in natural gas systems, utilizing consumer flexibility.

Strategic natural gas storage coordination among EU member states in response to disruption in the trans Austria gas pipeline: A stochastic approach to solidarity

Marzia Sesini et al.

Summary: This paper analyzes the economic feasibility of using strategic storage as a solidarity measure to secure EU energy supply, finding that strategic storage is cost-effective in emergency situations, reducing total costs and liquefied natural gas costs compared to scenarios without strategic storage in place.

Supply reliability assessment of a gas pipeline network under stochastic demands

Qian Chen et al.

Summary: An integrated methodology is proposed to assess the gas supply reliability of a gas pipeline network considering stochastic demands. The methodology includes selecting typical scenarios, assessing gas supply conditions using Latin hypercube sampling with the Cholesky decomposition method, and optimizing supply schemes using the Dijkstra algorithm. The assessment results cover probability distributions of gas shortages, identification of vulnerable units, reasons for gas supply shortages, and supply reliability for both the network and individual customers.
