Enhanced thermal stability and oxidation resistance in La 3-x Te 4 by compositing metallic nickel particles

Jian Li et al.

Summary: Lanthanum telluride is an important candidate for high-temperature thermoelectric materials. However, its thermal stability and oxidation resistance are crucial issues when operating at temperatures above 700K. The introduction of metallic nickel particles into the material can greatly reduce the oxidation rate and form a dense oxide composite layer that blocks oxygen diffusion.

Novel meta-phase arising from large atomic size mismatch

Kunpeng Zhao et al.

Summary: This study reports the discovery of unique metal phases, Cu-2(S,Te), Ag-2(S,Te), and Mg-2(Si,Sn), with a wide composition range. The formation of these metal phases defies the classic Hume-Rothery rule due to mismatched diffusion coefficients, atomic sizes, and electronegativities. The metal phases exhibit highly tunable sublattice order/disorder and possess interesting electronic and thermal properties, suggesting potential applications in materials research and technology.
