Characteristics of Gut Microbio a in Patients with GH-Secreting Pituitary Adenoma

Ben Lin et al.

Summary: Previous studies have shown that the gut microbiota at the genus level is altered in patients with growth hormone-secreting pituitary adenoma (GHPA). This study used 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing and metagenomics shotgun sequencing to explore the gut microbiota at the species level in GHPA patients. The results revealed significant differences in microbial diversity and taxa abundance between GHPA patients and healthy controls. These findings provide new insights into the role of gut microbiota in GHPA pathogenesis and potential therapeutic targets.

Growth hormone alters gross anatomy and morphology of the small and large intestines in age- and sex-dependent manners

Elizabeth A. Jensen et al.

Summary: This study found that GH action is positively associated with intestinal gross anatomy in bGH mice, while GHR-/- mice showed decreased parameters. Furthermore, GH signaling appears to alter the morphology of the small and large intestines in an age- and sex-dependent manner.

Acromegaly is associated with a distinct oral and gut microbiota

Serdar Sahin et al.

Summary: The study included 15 patients with newly diagnosed acromegaly without comorbidities and 15 healthy controls. It was found that there was agreement between oral and gut microbiota in acromegaly patients, with increased diversity in oral microbiota and lower Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio in fecal microbiota of acromegaly patients. Using a transfer learned model, patients with acromegaly could be identified with perfect accuracy based on the pattern of the microbiome.

Gut microbiota in patients with newly diagnosed acromegaly: a pilot cross-sectional study

Aysa Hacioglu et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the composition of microbiota in patients with newly diagnosed acromegaly and found significantly lower bacterial diversity in these patients, with the Bacteroidetes phylum predominating. The gut microbiota in patients with acromegaly was significantly altered compared to healthy controls. Further prospective studies are needed to explore the causal relationship between acromegaly, colorectal pathologies, and microbial alterations.
