Carbon black-based porous sub-micron carbon fibers for flexible supercapacitors

Chang Ma et al.

Summary: Construction of sub-micron carbon fibers using porous carbon black as the building unit and PAN-based pyrolytic carbon as the binder results in fibers with high porosity, specific surface area, and N/O-containing surface. The CB content significantly affects the thermal stability, flexibility, and conductivity of the fibers, which exhibit a considerable specific capacitance and excellent cycling stability for use in flexible supercapacitor electrodes.

Co3O4 nanorods with prevalent oxygen-vacancies confined by PDA-RGO nanosheets for excellent performances in supercapacitors

Jinjun Tian et al.

Summary: In this study, a Co3O4@polydopamine-reduced graphene oxide (Co3O4@PDA-RGO) nanocomposite was developed to alleviate deactivation issues in supercapacitors by self-reviving oxygen-vacancies (O(V)s) on transition metal oxides. The nanocomposite demonstrated high specific capacitance, efficient dispersion of Co3O4 nanorods, and maintained a significant percentage of oxygen species near O(V)s. Additionally, the reversible redox with the aid of PDA-RGO allowed the O(V)s to survive rigorous charge-discharge cycles, leading to a high energy density and excellent capacitance retention in an asymmetric supercapacitor configuration.
