A calcined clay fixed bed adsorption studies for the removal of heavy metals from aqueous solutions

Leila Khalfa et al.

Summary: A natural clay material from southern Tunisia was used as a low cost sorbent in a column-wise removal of metal pollutants, showing promising results for sustainable wastewater treatment strategies. Column adsorption experiments were carried out for production of cleaner effluents and understanding of main removal mechanisms through a dynamic methodology.

Influence of the addition of organo-montmorillonite nanofiller on cross-linking of polysiloxanes - FTIR studies

Monika Wojcik-Bania

Summary: This study investigated the effect of organo-montmorillonite nanofiller on the cross-linking process of polysiloxane. The results showed that the rate and efficiency of the cross-linking process decreased as the amount of nanofiller in the polysiloxane matrix increased, leading to a lower cross-link density of the studied materials. X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy were employed to determine the dispersion of organoclay within the systems.

Ethylenediamine-functionalized Zr-based MOF for efficient removal of heavy metal ions from water

Farhad Ahmadijokani et al.

Summary: Ethylenediamine-functionalized Zr-based metal-organic framework (UiO-66-EDA) showed excellent adsorption capability for Pb(II), Cd(II), and Cu(II) metal ions, with adsorption behavior governed by pseudo-second-order kinetic and Langmuir isotherm models. The adsorption process depended on interactions between metal ions and the abundant functional groups on the UiO-66-EDA surface.

Adsorption of Pb(II) and Cd(II) by magnetic activated carbon and its mechanism

Zhen Zhang et al.

Summary: Magnetized activated carbons (MAC) prepared from rape straw powder showed high adsorption capacities for Pb(II) and Cd(II) due to surface active points, with adsorption behavior conforming to the Freundlich model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Thermodynamic parameters indicated spontaneous and endothermic reactions. Adjusting the pH of the solution could enhance adsorption capacity, but competitive adsorption occurred in the presence of high-valent ions. Adsorption mechanisms included electrostatic attraction, surface complexation, and co-precipitation. The MAC material showed potential for heavy metal ion removal from aqueous solutions.
