Variations of Concentration Characteristics of Rainfall Runoff Pollutants in Typical Urban Living Areas

Jie Xu et al.

Summary: The study reveals that pollutant concentrations in rainfall runoff increase in the initial stage and then decrease, while rainfall causes erosion of pollutants on the underlying surface. The first flush effect is commonly observed, providing theoretical support for partially intercepting rainfall runoff to control water pollution.

Not all SuDS are created equal: Impact of different approaches on combined sewer overflows

Prabhat Joshi et al.

Summary: SuDS play a crucial role in stormwater management by reducing runoff volume, increasing runoff concentration time, and improving drainage system capacity. This study evaluated the potential and cost-effectiveness of SuDS in reducing combined sewer overflows (CSOs) in a small urban catchment. Results showed that SuDS deployment can effectively attenuate CSO volume and is a cost-effective retrofit option for controlling CSOs.

Urbanization and hydrological conditions drive the spatial and temporal variability of microplastic pollution in the Garonne River

Aline Reis de Carvalho et al.

Summary: This study quantified spatial and temporal variability of microplastic (MP) pollution in surface water across the Garonne river catchment in France. Results show that MP concentration is influenced by urbanization and hydrological conditions, with significant variation in different seasons and particle sizes. Further studies are needed to improve understanding of spatial and temporal patterns of MP pollution in freshwater ecosystems.
