Construction and optimization of an ecological network based on morphological spatial pattern analysis and circuit theory

Yi An et al.

Summary: This study proposed a new method for constructing ecological networks focusing on the importance of steppingstones for optimizing Asian elephants affected by human disturbance in a tropical region in Southwest China. Source areas were determined through a combination of MSPA and the PC index, and a network connecting these areas was constructed using circuit theory with steppingstones added near breaks in corridors. The study showed significant improvement in landscape connectivity and potential corridor areas after optimization.

Summary: This study utilized advanced technology such as airborne lidar to investigate habitat connectivity in the urban area of Nanjing, China, identifying important corridors for species movement and dispersal. Particularly, natural forest areas with complex 3D structures showed outstanding performance in connectivity.

Habitat Connectivity for the Conservation of Small Ungulates in A Human-Dominated Landscape

Rajashekhar Niyogi et al.

Summary: Conserving landscape connections among favorable habitats is crucial for maintaining populations in fragmented areas. The study in central India found that multiple-use forests play a key role in maintaining connectivity for antelopes, as well as privately held farmlands and plantations. Mitigation measures, such as underpasses, overpasses, and fences, are needed for perilous patches with higher mortality risk for species.

Summary: The study presents an optimal evaluation method for an urban ecological network by combining morphological spatial pattern analysis and graph theory. The results reveal that core and edge areas occupy the majority of space, with relatively few large and high-quality ecological spaces in the study area.

Research on Identification of Multiple Cropping Index of Farmland and Regional Optimization Scheme in China Based on NDVI Data

Tingting Li et al.

Summary: This study calculated the multiple cropping index of farmland in China using NDVI data and proposed an optimized regionalization scheme for farmland use. The findings show that the multiple cropping index of farmland in China fluctuated from 2000 to 2018, which was closely related to agricultural support policies enforced in China. Counties with decreasing multiple cropping indexes were primarily located in grain-producing areas, impacting food security.

Mengyao Li et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the spatiotemporal differences in habitat quality in Shiyan City, Hubei Province, and found that there is spatial heterogeneity in habitat quality, with higher quality habitats mainly located in mountain and hill areas and water areas, while lower quality habitats were mainly distributed in agricultural urban areas.
