Erosion Mechanisms of Debris Flow on the Sediment Bed

Hongchao Zheng et al.

Summary: Through experiments, it was found that the erosion of bed sediments is related to the density and volume of the released flows, as well as the grain size of the bed sediments. The erosion rate of bed sediments is influenced by pore pressure, and the feedback effect of bed sediments strongly influences the flow depth and velocity.

Advances in the simulation of debris flow erosion: The case study of the Rio Gere (Italy) event of the 4th August 2017

Tommaso Baggio et al.

Summary: The study focuses on modeling the process of debris flow generation and simulating the motion of solid-fluid mixture mass flow by progressively increasing the debris component. The research case occurred in the Northeastern Alps of Italy, and the results suggest that simulating debris flow entrainment processes using a multiphase model is particularly suitable for accurately reproducing the event.

Deciphering seismic and normal-force fluctuation signatures of debris flows: An experimental assessment of effects of flow composition and dynamics

Summary: Experimental results show that seismic vibrations and normal-force fluctuations are reliable indicators of debris flow composition and dynamics. The distribution of large particles has a more pronounced effect on seismic vibrations and normal-force fluctuations, especially when normalized by flow depth.
