Bright and Robust Phosphorescence Achieved by Non-Covalent Clipping

Zijian Li et al.

Summary: A non-covalent clipping strategy is utilized to encapsulate Pt-II-based triplet emitters in a tweezer receptor, achieving the goal of reducing susceptibility to the surrounding environment and displaying robust phosphorescence. The phosphorescent colors can be intricately modulated by varying ligand substitutes, and circularly polarized phosphorescence is further enhanced for chiral Pt-II emitters. Overall, the clipping approach paves the way for the development of high-performance phosphorescent materials with bright emission and easy color tunability.

Mechanochromic luminescence properties of fluoro-substituted pinene-containing cyclometalated platinum(II) complexes with multiple triplet excited states

Qian-Ying Yang et al.

Summary: The study explores the structure-mechanochromism relationship with respect to packing patterns and intermolecular interactions affected by the number and location of -F. Mechanochromic luminescence was observed in yellow solids, with the change in multiple triplet excited states accounting for the phenomenon. Mechanical force perturbed molecular packing, leading to the formation of aggregates with effective interactions in the amorphous phase and variation of excited states. The reversible mechanochromic luminescence could be cycled without noticeable performance degradation, providing insight for designing materials with multicolor and multicomponent responses.
