Consensus statement: Standardized reporting of power-producing luminescent solar concentrator performance

Chenchen Yang et al.

Summary: The lack of consensus on reporting standards in LSC-PV research hinders fair performance comparison among reports. Standardized characterization protocols are necessary for emerging PV devices to harmonize with other PV devices. The commentary highlights common limitations in LSC literature and suggests best practices for moving forward to achieve meaningful advances in LSC-PV research.

Influence of alkyne spacers on the performance of thiophene-based donors in bulk-heterojunction organic photovoltaic cells

John Marques dos Santos et al.

Summary: This study reports the synthesis of small molecule donors with alkyne spacers for solution-processable organic photovoltaic cells. It was found that compounds with alkyne moieties displayed poor performance, while the addition of EDOT units improved charge transfer. The study concluded that careful design is necessary to ensure higher V-oc values and a favorable morphology in thiophene-based OPVs.

Undirected, Selective Csp2-H Alkynylation of Five-membered Heteroarenes

Fabio Bellina et al.

Summary: This review covers the most significant results reported in the literature regarding the synthesis of alkynyl-substituted five-membered heteroarenes by selective direct Csp2-H alkynylation with 1-haloalkynes and analogues, or by cross-dehydrogenative alkynylation (CDA) with terminal alkynes, without making use of directing groups.

Large-Area Semi-Transparent Luminescent Solar Concentrators Based on Large Stokes Shift Aggregation-Induced Fluorinated Emitters Obtained Through a Sustainable Synthetic Approach

Francesca Corsini et al.

Summary: This study introduces a novel approach for the design, fabrication, and characterization of semi-transparent large-area luminescent solar concentrators, incorporating a chemically sustainable organic luminophore PFPBNT. Experimental and computational results show that PFPBNT exhibits excellent photon efficiency in thin-film LSCs.

Ligand-free Pd/Ag-mediated dehydrogenative alkynylation of imidazole derivatives

Fabio Bellina et al.

Summary: A variety of 2-alkynyl(benzo)imidazoles have been synthesized by dehydrogenative alkynylation of (benzo)imidazoles with terminal alkyne in NMP under air in the presence of Ag2CO3 as the oxidant and Pd(OAc)(2) as the catalyst precursor. The data obtained in this study support a reaction mechanism involving a non-concerted metalation deprotonation (n-CMD) pathway.

Anthradithiophene-based organic semiconductors through regiodirected double annulations

Andrea Nitti et al.

Summary: An innovative synthetic method is reported for the efficient construction of pi-extended angularly fused ADT-based scaffolds, showing scalability and sustainability. The ADT-based compounds synthesized through this method can be efficiently derivatized to obtain two types of pi-extended small molecules. Devices built with p-type small molecules exhibit good performance in mobility tests.

Laboratory protocols for measuring and reporting the performance of luminescent solar concentrators

Michael G. Debije et al.

Summary: LSCs have shown great potential for enhancing the spectral response of photovoltaic devices and enabling their deployment in urban settings. However, inconsistencies in experimental measurements and reporting practices have hindered direct comparisons between lab-scale LSCs, prompting the need for best practice guidelines for accurate measurement and reporting of LSC performance.
