Irisin alleviates FFA induced β-cell insulin resistance and inflammatory response through activating PI3K/AKT/FOXO1 signaling pathway

Shuang Zheng et al.

Summary: Research shows that irisin effectively decreases lipid levels in HFD mice, enhances glucose-stimulated insulin secretion, and inhibits the expressions of inflammatory cytokines both in vivo and in vitro experiments. Furthermore, irisin improves the PI3K/AKT insulin signaling pathway and inhibits the TLR4/NF-kappa B inflammatory signaling pathway.

Associations of apelin, leptin, irisin, ghrelin, insulin, glucose levels, and lipid parameters with physical activity during eight weeks of regular exercise training

Aykut Dundar et al.

Summary: The effects of 8 weeks of basketball training on apelin, leptin, irisin, ghrelin, insulin, glucose, and blood lipids were evaluated among basketball players. Apelin and ghrelin levels increased while leptin, irisin, and insulin levels decreased after the training. These changes were consistent with the decrease in lipid levels.

The Time-Course of Antioxidant Irisin Activity: Role of the Nrf2/HO-1/HMGB1 Axis

Agnieszka Irena Mazur-Bialy et al.

Summary: This study found that irisin effectively reduced free radical production by macrophages and altered the kinetics of key factors in the Nrf2/HO-1/HMGB1 pathway, leading to increased production of Nrf2 and HO-1 while significantly reducing HMGB1 release.

Summary: Irisin, a myokine discovered in 2012, is mainly produced in skeletal muscle and influences the browning process of adipose tissue and lipid and energy metabolism. Recent studies suggest its potential may have been underestimated, highlighting the need for further investigation.

Circulating IRAPe, Irisin, and IL-34 in Relation to Insulin Resistance in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes

Tarek M. Mostafa et al.

Summary: This study found elevated levels of IL-34 and visfatin, and decreased levels of irisin and IRAPe in patients with T2DM, with these markers being associated with insulin resistance. IL-34 was positively correlated with visfatin, and negatively correlated with irisin and IRAPe.

Dietary Intervention, When Not Associated With Exercise, Upregulates Irisin/FNDC5 While Reducing Visceral Adiposity Markers in Obese Rats

Vanessa de Oliveira Furino et al.

Summary: In this study, diet was found to be the most important factor in reducing visceral adiposity in both short and long term. Exercise was shown to be crucial in maintaining muscle mass and decreasing visceral fat deposits over a longer period. Additionally, the combination of diet and exercise was found to enhance the effects of each intervention.

Summary: Physical exercise generally has a significant positive effect on irisin blood levels, although there is considerable inconsistency in individual study results. This raises concerns about the methodological detection of irisin using ELISA kits.

Exercise in the cold causes greater irisin release but may not be enough for adropin

Suleyman Ulupinar et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the effects of aerobic exercise in different environmental temperatures on irisin and adropin levels. The findings showed that aerobic exercise in a cold environment leads to greater release of irisin, while the combined effect of exercise and cold exposure may not be enough to significantly increase adropin levels.
