Identification of lung innervating sensory neurons and their target specificity

Yujuan Su et al.

Summary: The lung, known as the gas exchange organ, plays a critical role in responding to the aerosol environment through the interaction with the nervous system. However, the diversity and specificity of lung innervating neurons are not well understood. In this study, the researchers investigated the cell body location, molecular signature, and projection pattern of lung innervating sensory neurons. Their findings provide a foundation for understanding the function of these neurons in the lung.

Lung epithelial and endothelial damage, loss of tissue repair, inhibition of fibrinolysis, and cellular senescence in fatal COVID-19

Felice D'Agnillo et al.

Summary: This study identified significant pulmonary pathological features in fatal COVID-19 cases, including progressive diffuse alveolar damage, excessive thrombosis, and delayed pulmonary tissue and vascular remodeling. Acute damage at the alveolar-capillary barrier was characterized by loss of surfactant protein expression and injury to various types of cells, such as alveolar epithelial cells and endothelial cells. These findings provide insights into potential therapeutic targets for treating SARS-CoV-2 infection-induced respiratory distress.

Mouse model of experimental pulmonary hypertension: Lung angiogram and right heart catheterization

Mingmei Xiong et al.

Summary: This study utilized ex vivo lung angiography, histology, and in vivo right heart catheterization to characterize pulmonary hemodynamics and lung vascular structure in normal mice and mice with experimental PH. The parameters determined by angiogram were consistent across different regions of the mouse lung and not affected by gender. Right heart catheterization provided reliable measurements of pulmonary hemodynamics and RV function, making it a valuable tool for studying PH.
