Dental Fluorosis: the Risk of Misdiagnosis-a Review

Ines A. Revelo-Mejia et al.

Summary: Fluoride is not the only factor responsible for enamel mottling, with other endogenous and exogenous factors also potentially causing such defects. More precise definition and diagnosis of dental fluorosis, along with a more discriminating diagnostic procedure, are necessary to ensure rational use and control of fluorides for dental health. Positive identification of environmental fluoride levels is crucial before confirming a diagnosis of fluorosis.

Exploring the electrosorption selectivity of nitrate over chloride in capacitive deionization (CDI) and membrane capacitive deionization (MCDI)

Shao-Wei Tsai et al.

Summary: The selectivity of NO3- over Cl- in capacitive deionization (CDI) was found to be influenced by operational factors such as charging time, initial concentration ratio, and applied voltage, primarily due to ion-carbon affinity and electrical force. In contrast, membrane capacitive deionization (MCDI) significantly reduced NO3- selectivity due to ion-exchange membrane control based on charge rather than affinity, resulting in a lower NO3- selectivity compared to CDI.

Selective fluoride removal in capacitive deionization by reduced graphene oxide/hydroxyapatite composite electrode

Gyuleen Park et al.

Summary: This study achieved selective fluoride removal in a CDI system using rGO/HA composite material, which showed a significantly higher fluoride removal capacity compared to the traditional AC electrode. Experimental results demonstrate an increase in fluoride removal capacity with the application of adequate voltage. Furthermore, the rGO/HA electrode exhibits stability and reusability in operation.

Unravelling pH Changes in Electrochemical Desalination with Capacitive Deionization

Antony C. Arulrajan et al.

Summary: Membrane capacitive deionization (MCDI) is a water desalination technology using porous electrodes and ion-exchange membranes, during which pH changes impact the stability of electrodes and membranes. Experimental findings show that with aged electrodes, pH changes are mainly caused by non-Faradaic processes. These changes in pH direction and magnitude vary depending on the feed water composition during regeneration.

Application of aluminum-modified food waste biochar as adsorbent of fluoride in aqueous solutions and optimization of production using response surface methodology

Vera Meilani et al.

Summary: The study investigated the use of aluminum-impregnated biochar derived from food waste (Al-FWB) for fluoride removal from aqueous solutions, determining optimal synthesis conditions, removal efficiency, and mechanism. Results showed that Al-FWB has the potential to be an effective adsorbent for fluoride removal.
