Performance of a novel protease-activated fluorescent imaging system for intraoperative detection of residual breast cancer during breast conserving surgery

Conor R. Lanahan et al.

Summary: The LUM Imaging System showed robust performance in detecting all breast cancer subtypes during lumpectomy surgery, with stable signal performance regardless of menopausal status and breast density. There was no significant impact on histopathology or receptor evaluation from the use of the LUM015 fluorescent imaging agent. Falsely positive readings were more likely when tumor was present < 2 mm from the adjacent specimen margin.

Extracellular vesicles-based pre-targeting strategy enables multi-modal imaging of orthotopic colon cancer and image-guided surgery

Boping Jing et al.

Summary: In this study, an extracellular vesicles-based nanoprobe was synthesized for visualizing colon cancer with PET/CT and NIRF imaging, showing promising results in preoperative evaluation and image-guided surgery in animal models. The nanoprobe showed a strong binding ability to tumor cells and achieved clear imaging results using PET/CT and NIRF imaging techniques. This study suggests the potential clinical application of extracellular vesicles as nanocarriers for multi-modal imaging and image-guided surgery of colon cancer.
