Tuning Fermi Levels in Intrinsic Antiferromagnetic Topological Insulators MnBi2Te4and MnBi4Te7by Defect Engineering and Chemical Doping

Mao-Hua Du et al.

Summary: This study investigates the defect formation and dopant incorporation in MnBi(2)Te(4) and MnBi(4)Te(7) through systematic density functional theory calculations, revealing that internal heterostructure induces large-size-mismatched antisite defects and substitutional dopants. Te-rich growth conditions can reduce bulk free electron density, while Na doping is proposed as an effective way to pin the Fermi level for observing surface quantum transport. The findings suggest strategies for defect engineering and doping in MnBi(2)Te(4), MnBi(4)Te(7), and related magnetic topological insulators.

Mn-Rich MnSb2Te4: A Topological Insulator with Magnetic Gap Closing at High Curie Temperatures of 45-50 K

Stefan Wimmer et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that p-type MnSb2Te4, previously considered topologically trivial, can become a ferromagnetic topological insulator with a few percent Mn excess, showing record Curie temperature and out-of-plane magnetic anisotropy. Experimental results reveal phenomena such as ferromagnetic hysteresis, a 2D Dirac cone, out-of-plane spin polarization, and bandgap closing at the Curie temperature.

Even-Odd Layer-Dependent Anomalous Hall Effect in Topological Magnet MnBi2Te4 Thin Films

Yi-Fan Zhao et al.

Summary: The study utilized molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) to grow MnBi2Te4 films of various thicknesses and observed a nonsquare hysteresis loop in films with a thickness greater than 2 septuple layers (SL). The hysteresis loop was found to consist of two anomalous Hall (AH) components, one from the dominant MnBi2Te4 phase and the other from the minor Mn-doped Bi2Te3 phase. The AH component extracted from the MnBi2Te4 phase exhibited clear even-odd layer-dependent behavior.

Evolution of magnetic interactions in Sb-substituted MnBi2Te4

S. X. M. Riberolles et al.

Summary: The study on Mn(Bi1-xSbx)(2)Te-4 series revealed a crossover from antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic interlayer coupling near x = 1, with increased average FM exchange interactions within the triangular layer due to Sb substitution. Broadening of spectral lines and emergence of sharp magnetic excitations in MnSb2Te4 were observed, indicating the influence of substitutional and antisite disorder on magnetism in Mn(Bi1-xSbx)(2)Te-4.
