Design for preparation of more active cross-linked enzyme aggregates ofBurkholderia cepacialipase using palm fiber residue

Nanda R. Alves et al.

Summary: A new design of cross-linked enzyme aggregates (CLEAs) of Burkholderia cepacia lipase (BCL) using lignocellulosic residue of palm fiber as an additive was proposed, resulting in high activity yield and volumetric activity in the hydrolysis of olive oil. The addition of specific coating agents and the use of palm fiber as an additive led to successful preparation of active CLEAs.

Immobilization of enzymes on nanoinorganic support materials: An update

Zahra Ashkan et al.

Summary: Enzyme immobilization can overcome the instability and non-reusability of enzymes, improving thermal and pH stability but increasing K-m values and decreasing V-max values; Enzymes immobilized on nanoinorganic support materials show higher Delta G values and lower Delta H and Delta S values; Covalently-bound and multipoint-attached immobilization methods can reduce costs and enhance product quality compared to weak physical adsorption immobilization.

Adedeji Nelson Ademakinwa

Summary: Aureobasidium pullulans laccase was immobilized using cross-linked enzyme aggregate (CLEA) and applied in the removal of bisphenol-A (BPA), with optimal conditions determined for highest immobilization yield. The CLEA showed high stability and retained substantial activity even after multiple catalytic cycles. BPA removal using the CLEA was effective and non-toxic to germinated seeds.

Recent Advances in Biocatalysis with Chemical Modification and Expanded Amino Acid Alphabet

Amol D. Pagar et al.

Summary: The two main strategies for enzyme engineering, directed evolution and rational design, have been widely used to improve the intrinsic activities of proteins. However, the limited chemical diversity of biopolymers, restricted to 20 canonical amino acids, hinders the creation of novel enzymes. To overcome this, researchers have been devoted to expanding the protein sequence space through chemical modifications and/or incorporation of noncanonical amino acids.
