Stiffness assessment of cold recycled asphalt mixtures-Aspects related to filler type, stress state, viscoelasticity, and suction

Joao Paulo Costa Meneses et al.

Summary: Cold recycling is a beneficial technique for asphalt pavement rehabilitation, but further investigation is needed. This study explored the behavior of cold recycled asphalt mixtures through stiffness assessment and suction tests, finding that the filler type affects the mechanical behavior of CRAM.

Effect of mixture composition on the mechanical behaviour of cold recycled asphalt mixtures

Andre Kazuo Kuchiishi et al.

Summary: The mechanical behavior of cold recycled asphalt mixtures (CRAMs) is influenced by the composition of the mixture, especially the type and content of bitumen stabilizing agents and active fillers. Triaxial resilient modulus and dynamic modulus tests show that the type and content of these components significantly affect the behavior of the CRAM. Mixtures with cement addition exhibit behavior similar to cementitious materials, while those with hydrated lime behave like granular materials. Dynamic modulus tests also reveal viscoelastic properties and differences between mixtures stabilized with asphalt emulsion and foamed asphalt.

Fatigue characteristics and prediction of cement-stabilized cold recycled mixture with road-milling materials considering recycled aggregate composition

Zedong Zhao et al.

Summary: This study revealed the effects of RA content, RA composition, and stress level on the fatigue life of the CSCRM using CMM with pure cement through 40 sets of splitting fatigue tests. A fatigue equation considering RA content, RA composition, and stress level was established to predict the fatigue life of the CSCRM under different cement contents.

Effects of the high temperature and heavy load on the rutting resistance of cold-mix emulsified asphalt mixture

Shifa Xu et al.

Summary: Research has shown that the S-CMA mixture has superior mechanical properties and rutting performance compared to HMA and WMA mixtures, with lower sensitivity. The degradation in rutting resistance of the three mixtures follows a linear law with increasing temperature and load, while the sensitivity to load and temperature decreases. Sensitivity to temperature is much higher than sensitivity to load.

Effect of curing and compaction on volumetric and mechanical properties of cold-recycled mixture with asphalt emulsion under different cement contents

Wenting Yang et al.

Summary: Cold-recycled mixture with asphalt emulsion (CMAE) is widely used in pavement rehabilitation for its environmental and economic advantages. The study found that single curing is beneficial for CMAE with low cement content, while mixed curing is more effective for CMAE with high cement content. Increasing compaction blows and utilizing double compaction can improve the mechanical properties of CMAE.
