Investigation of Drying Shrinkage of Cement-Based Materials Assisted by Digital Image Correlation

Justin Kinda et al.

Summary: This paper presents a validation of a new protocol for characterizing drying shrinkage of cement paste. The method uses environmental scanning electron microscope or climatic chamber assisted by digital image correlation to study the drying shrinkage of cement-based materials, with the goal of understanding the influence of drying rate on microscopic strain. The study investigates the impact of specimen shape, size, and relative humidity history on drying shrinkage, and finds that the amplitude of drying shrinkage is independent of drying rate and specimen shape.

A combined Lattice-Boltzmann-finite element approach to modeling unsaturated poroelastic behavior of heterogeneous media

Summary: This paper proposes a procedure combining Lattice-Boltzmann and finite element simulations to model the effects of capillary pressure in porous microstructures. The method accurately predicts the geometry of capillary liquid films and liquid phases for arbitrary geometry of the solid skeleton, and extracts the effective macroscopic behavior of the material.

Ageing and air leakage assessment of a nuclear reactor containment mock-up: VERCORS 2nd benchmark

Laurent Charpin et al.

Summary: The article discusses a large experimental program called VERCORS launched by Electricite de France (EDF) to study the structural behavior and leak-tightness of concrete containment buildings (CCB). The results of the experiment indicate that predicting the mechanical and leakage behavior of containment buildings is challenging, and more research is needed to better predict the localization of cracks and leaks.
