Beyond Brightening Low-light Images

Yonghua Zhang et al.

Summary: Images captured under low-light conditions often suffer from poor visibility due to multiple degradation factors. This study proposes a network based on Retinex theory, decomposing images into illumination and reflectance components to enhance image quality. Extensive experiments show the effectiveness and superiority of this method, especially in terms of flexibility and robustness against visual defects.

Understanding Deep Learning (Still) Requires Rethinking Generalization

Chiyuan Zhang et al.

Summary: Despite traditional explanations falling short in justifying the excellent generalization of large neural networks, experiments show that state-of-the-art convolutional networks can easily adapt to random labeling during training, indicating a different mechanism contributing to their strong performance in practice.

A hybrid deep segmentation network for fundus vessels via deep-learning framework

Lei Yang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a new hybrid deep image segmentation method for fundus vessels that utilizes a multitask segmentation network and a fusion network to accurately segment both thick and thin vessels from fundus images. An effective loss function is designed to address the imbalanced ratio between thick and thin vessels, and an improved U-net network model is used to ensure segmentation performance.
